The Youth Environment Assembly (YEA) 2025 will take place on November 29–30 and December 7, 2025 at the UNEP Headquarters, United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON), Kenya. As the world’s largest youth gathering within the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), YEA provides a global platform for young people to influence international environmental policy and action.
What is the Youth Environment Assembly?
The Youth Environment Assembly (YEA) is organized by the Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP (CYMG). It serves as the official youth forum leading up to the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), ensuring that youth voices are included in high-level environmental decision-making.
The 2024 edition of YEA brought together more than 450 youth delegates from across the globe. With $200,000 raised, the event supported 250 in-person participants, including 50 international and 200 local delegates.
In 2025, YEA aligns with the UNEA-7 theme, “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”, focusing on three core objectives:
· Youth Advocacy and Engagement in UNEA-7: Ensuring meaningful youth participation in policy discussions, negotiations, and the drafting of the Global Youth Declaration.
· Capacity Building: Equipping young leaders with training in advocacy, policy processes, and negotiation skills.
· Collaboration and Network-Building: Strengthening global partnerships among youth, policymakers, and stakeholders.
Key Opportunities at YEA 2025
1. Funded Participation YEA-3
· Financial support is available for both Kenya-based and international youth delegates.
· Deadline to apply: October 1, 2025, 23:59 UTC.
2. Self-funded Participation YEA-3
· Open to youth wishing to attend in person or virtually.
· Accreditation support will be provided for UNEA and OECPR participation.
· Registration deadline: October 30, 2025, 23:59 EAT (UTC+3).
Eligibility Criteria
· Open to members of the Children and Youth Major Group (CYMG) under the age of 35 on December 12, 2025.
Selection for UNEA and OECPR nomination support will be based on:
o Motivation and proven commitment to environmental action.
o Prior experience in environmental governance (an asset).
o Active engagement with CYMG activities.
o Availability for the full duration of YEA, OECPR, and UNEA.
o Willingness to contribute through facilitation, interventions, and note-taking.
