Drive Innovation in Sustainable Agriculture and Development Research
The Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn, Germany, is inviting applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Agricultural Economics (m/f/d). This position is part of the second phase of the interdisciplinary Excellence Cluster PhenoRob – Robotics and Phenotyping for Sustainable Crop Production, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The selected postdoc will conduct pioneering research on the determinants and economic and environmental impacts of adopting robotics, sensing, and digital innovations in agricultural systems across low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The position offers an opportunity to work closely with leading experts, including Profs. Jan Börner, Matin Qaim, and other PhenoRob researchers, within a highly collaborative international research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual frameworks to analyze adoption patterns and impacts of agricultural innovations.
- Compile and manage data from various LMICs, including household surveys, statistical datasets, and remote sensing data.
- Conduct data analysis using advanced statistical and econometric tools.
- Collaborate on interdisciplinary publications with PhenoRob researchers.
- Build an international network of research partners in selected LMICs.
- Co-organize events for dissemination of research results and stakeholder engagement.
Candidate Profile
- PhD in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven academic excellence, with a strong publication record in top-tier journals.
- Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary and international teams.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and a willingness to travel.
