The 2026–28 Postdoctoral Fellowship and the 2026–27 Visiting Fellowship with the Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) are now open to applications.
About the Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab
The Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) is committed to addressing emergent social, cultural, economic, and political challenges in Asia through:
- Interdisciplinary, problem-oriented research
- Policy-relevant and comparative studies
- Publications that inform global debates
SNAPL is housed at Shorenstein APARC under the directorship of Professor Gi-Wook Shin.
Research Themes
The Lab focuses on four major themes:

- Nationalism and Racism
- U.S.-Asia Relations
- Democratic Crisis and Reform
Call for Applications: 2026–2028 Next Asia Policy Postdoctoral Fellowship
SNAPL invites applications for two 2-year postdoctoral fellowships for scholars with strong interests in interdisciplinary research and policy engagement on contemporary Asia.

- U.S.-Asia Relations
- Democratic Crisis and Reform
Each fellow will:
- Lead one thematic collaborative research group
- Support student programming for SNAPL
- Contribute to general research and publication activities
Duration
- Appointment: Two years
- Possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding
Compensation
- Annual salary: $80,000 plus benefits
- Fellows must be in residence at Stanford for the duration
- Privileges include:
- Access to Stanford research facilities
- Participation in events at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and across campus

Call for Applications: 2026–2027 Next Asia Policy Visiting Fellowship
SNAPL offers two visiting scholar positions to researchers from Asia, beginning Fall Quarter 2026.

- Positions Available:
- General visiting fellowship
- Fellowship dedicated to research on the Philippines
Eligibility
- Scholars and professionals from the Asia-Pacific region
- PhD holders or professionals with substantial records of achievement
- Research must align with one of SNAPL’s four themes
Duration
- Appointment: One academic year
Stipend
- Supplementary stipend: $30,000
- Fellows must be in residence at Stanford
- Privileges include:
- Access to Stanford research facilities
- Opportunity to audit relevant courses (with instructor permission)
- Participation in events at the Freeman Spogli Institute and across campus
