Paid EU Traineeships 2025: Launch Your International Career with the European Defence Agency

Are you a recent university graduate passionate about European defence cooperation? The European Defence Agency (EDA) is offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience through its 1-year Traineeship Programme, designed to help graduates transition smoothly into professional life in a dynamic, multicultural environment at the heart of Europe’s security and defence efforts.

Why Apply for an EDA Traineeship?

Joining the EDA as a trainee means much more than an internship—it’s your first step into the real world of policy, research, and strategic defence collaboration. As a trainee, you’ll gain:

  • First-hand insight into European defence policies and capability development processes

  • Practical experience applying the knowledge acquired during your academic studies

  • Exposure to a vibrant international workplace, where innovation and cooperation drive every project

Whether you’re interested in logistics, innovation, communication, legal affairs, or cybersecurity, the EDA offers a wide range of traineeships tailored to your background and interests.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the EDA Traineeship Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality: Be a citizen of a Member State participating in the Agency.

  • Educational Background: Have completed at least a three-year higher education course (i.e., a full university degree) by the application deadline.

  • Languages: Demonstrate excellent knowledge of at least two participating Member States’ languages—one of which must be English, the Agency’s primary working language. Additional languages are a plus.

  • Relevant Background: Have a field of study aligned with the activities of the Directorate or Unit to which they are applying.

  • Security Clearance: Be able to obtain a Personnel Security Clearance Certificate (PSCC). (For more details, consult the FAQs.)

  • No Previous Traineeship: Applicants must not have previously held a paid or unpaid traineeship or employment of more than six weeks in another EU institution or body.

Programme Timeline and Duration

The Call for Applications is typically published in March, with the traineeship starting in September. Placements begin on either the 1st or 16th of the month, and the traineeship runs for a fixed period of 12 months.
