Postgraduate Scholarships at the University of Exeter – Faculty of Environment, Science, and Economy

The Green Futures Postgraduate Taught Scholarship reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring that talented and dedicated individuals from Low and Lower Middle-Income Countries have the opportunity to study and contribute to sustainable development.

This scholarship aims to support students who:

  • Engage with the scientific, human, social, and cultural aspects of sustainability.
  • Develop the skills and imagination necessary to support a greener economy and sustainable society.
  • Cultivate a global mindset, promoting culturally inclusive behavior and environmentally responsible practices.
  • Contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries upon graduation.

The Green Futures Scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a stipend for living costs. It is awarded to one exceptional international candidate who would otherwise be unable to pursue their sustainability-focused academic and career goals.

Eligible Programmes (2025/26)

The scholarship is available for one-year, full-time, campus-based Postgraduate Taught degrees within the Faculty of Environment, Science, and Economy:

  • MSc Applied Data Science (Ecology and Evolution)
  • MSc Applied Data Science (Environment & Sustainability)
  • MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy)
  • MSc Conservation and Biodiversity
  • MSc Construction Design Management
  • MSc Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology
  • MSc Geographical Information Science
  • MSc Global Sustainability Solutions
  • MSc Marine and Coastal Sustainability
  • MSc Mining Environmental Management
  • MSc Renewable Energy Engineering
  • MSc Sustainable Business Management (including Environment and Tourism pathways)
  • MSc Sustainable Development
  • MSc Weather and Climate Science

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Classified as an international student for fee purposes.
  • A citizen/passport holder of a Low or Lower Middle-Income Country (as listed in the first three columns of the table here).
  • Hold an offer to study one of the eligible Master’s programmes listed above at the University of Exeter for the 2025/26 academic year (September 2025 entry).
  • Have achieved, or expect to achieve, the equivalent of a UK first-class undergraduate degree.
  • Have not previously studied or worked in a High-Income Country.

If you have not yet applied for an eligible Master’s programme, please visit the Postgraduate Taught Study pages and submit your programme application by 29 March 2025 to ensure eligibility. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a virtual interview.

How to Apply

Once you have received an offer for an eligible Master’s programme, you may apply for the Green Futures Scholarship by completing the application form.

Application Requirements

A personal statement (maximum 500 words) must be submitted as part of the application. Applicants should address the following:

  1. Interest and Relevance: How does your chosen programme of study relate to a green future in your home country?
  2. Previous Contributions: How have you pursued this interest through individual and collective efforts in support of your home country’s sustainable initiatives?
  3. Goals at Exeter: What do you hope to gain and contribute during your studies, and how will this scholarship support your academic and professional journey?
  4. Future Impact: What are your ambitions post-graduation, and how will you remain connected to the University of Exeter?
