The Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship is now open for applications for the 2025/26 academic year. This prestigious scholarship aims to support talented students from Africa, nurturing future experts in sustainable development and fostering long-term collaborations between Africa and Hyundai Motor Group.

Scholarship Overview

Hyundai Motor Group is offering five scholarships to students enrolling at SOAS University of London:

  • Four scholarships for students pursuing a master’s taught degree programme.
  • One scholarship for a research degree (PhD) student.

Recipients will benefit from networking events and seminars hosted by Hyundai Motor Group and will be part of a growing alumni network designed to support their professional journey beyond their studies. Additionally, master’s students will have the opportunity to apply for a Junior Internship Program at SOAS.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Master’s award: £27,730 (covers full tuition fees, with any remaining balance provided as a stipend).
  • PhD award: Tuition fees covered for three years of full-time study and a fourth year for writing up. An annual stipend of £22,780 will be provided in termly instalments.

Eligible Programmes

  • Any full-time (1-year) master’s degree programme starting in 2025/26.
  • Any full-time research degree programme (PhD) beginning in 2025/26.
  • Priority is given to applicants in the College of Development Studies, Economics and Finance and College of Law, Anthropology and Politics.
  • Part-time courses and 2-year master’s courses are not eligible.

Candidate Criteria

  • Open to African nationals who are ordinarily resident in Africa.
  • Open to international fee-paying applicants only.
  • New admissions only (programmes starting in 2025/26).
  • Master’s applicants: Must hold or expect to obtain a first-class honours degree (or international equivalent). Those with a 2:1 may also apply but will not be given preference.
  • PhD applicants: Must hold or expect to obtain a master’s degree with distinction (or international equivalent). Those with a merit may also apply but will not be given preference.
  • Candidates must apply to SOAS and have an unconditional offer by the time the scholarship panel meets.
  • Applicants must meet the English language requirement for their programme.
  • This scholarship does not fund pre-sessional courses.

Selection Process

Applications will be assessed on academic merit and how well the proposed field of study aligns with sustainable development in Africa. The selection panel will review degree results, personal statements, references, and other supporting information.
