All Fellows will begin with a required two-week in-person residency in Washington, D.C. (September 1–12). Afterward, participants may continue either in-person or remotely from around the world.
Financial Support
- Senior Fellows: $22,000 stipend
- Fellows: $15,000 stipend
Part-time options may be available for exceptional candidates.

We offer two tracks—Fellow and Senior Fellow—to match different levels of experience.
Day-to-Day Experience
Fellows will work closely with an expert mentor on impactful projects such as:
- Writing influential policy pieces
- Organizing high-level convenings
- Briefing government officials
Projects span vital areas of AI policy, including:
- National security and defense
- Export controls
- CBRN risks of AI systems
- AI procurement and governance
- International regulation (U.S., U.K., E.U.)
- Hardware and compute policy
Deliverables include policy drafts, event leadership, stakeholder briefings, and rapid-response outputs—all designed to elevate your AI policy portfolio.
Life After the Fellowship
The program is structured to support your transition into an AI policy career. You’ll gain:
- Weekly one-on-one coaching focused on career development and productivity
- Feedback and mentorship from IAPS researchers and policy staff
- Access to an expansive professional network
- In some cases, additional financial support for post-fellowship transitions

Remote Fellows participate fully in all programming and receive a support budget for travel to conferences or expert meetings. IAPS has robust systems for remote engagement and legal hiring in many countries.

Do I need technical expertise?
No—applicants from all professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Can I apply to both the D.C. and remote tracks?
Yes. Selection processes are separate, and you may be accepted to one or both.
Will relocation support be provided?
Only in exceptional circumstances, based on need.
Can I participate part-time?
The program is full-time by default, but part-time options may be offered in rare cases.
