The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is inviting applications for the role of Education Officer to support Irish Aid’s efforts in global citizenship and development education. This position presents a unique opportunity for educators and professionals in Ireland’s education sector to contribute to shaping policies and initiatives in these critical areas.
Position Overview
The Education Officer role is available on a secondment basis and is open to serving professionals, including:
- Primary and post-primary teachers
- Further education teachers and trainers
- Adult education officers
- Youth workers
- Youth Reach coordinators
The selected candidate will play a vital role in supporting and promoting global citizenship education within both formal and non-formal education sectors.
Appointment and Placement
A panel of suitably qualified candidates will be established, from which Irish Aid will make appointments over a two-year period. At least one candidate from this panel will be appointed in September 2025 for the 2025/2026 academic year. The appointed candidate(s) will be based in Irish Aid’s Global Programmes Unit, either in Limerick or Dublin.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A recognised qualification in primary, post-primary, or further education teaching/training, or a relevant qualification in youth work, adult, and community education (minimum Level 8 qualification required).
- A minimum of eight years of teaching or relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience within the Irish education system, both formal and informal.
- Expertise in global citizenship and development education, or related fields such as anti-racism education, education for sustainable development, human rights education, and intercultural education.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Satisfactory references from employers.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
Additional training or qualifications in the following areas would be advantageous:
- Development education
- Global citizenship education
- Anti-racism education
- Intercultural education
- Education for sustainable development
- Human rights education
- Project management
Selection Process
Candidates will be shortlisted based on the above criteria. A single round of interviews is expected to take place in April 2025 to establish the panel of qualified candidates.
