PATHWAY PhD Studentships: A Unique Opportunity at Warwick

The University of Warwick is proud to announce the opening of nominations for the 2025/26 entry PATHWAY PhD studentships. This initiative is designed to support Warwick PhD applicants who self-identify as being either Black or of Black heritage. Under this scheme, students can be hosted by any department and are encouraged to explore topics of their choice.

Award Details

The PATHWAY PhD studentships offer comprehensive support for successful nominees:

  • Tuition Fees: Full payment for Home or Overseas fee status.
  • Stipend: Maintenance stipend at the prevailing UKRI rate for 3.5 years.
  • Research Grant: A central Research Support and Training grant of £5,000 per studentship.
  • Networking Opportunities: Access to talks, events, and career development resources.

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees must meet the following requirements:

  • Self-identify as being either Black or of Black heritage.
  • Hold a current offer for a Warwick PhD program and not already be enrolled in a PhD at the University of Warwick.
  • Obtain an offer to start their PhD by October 2025 and meet the nomination deadline of 2nd May 2025.

Application Process

Please note that PhD applicants cannot apply directly for the PATHWAY PhD scheme. Instead, eligible candidates should:

  • Express Interest: Contact the academic department that issued their PhD offer.
  • Departmental Nomination: The Director of Graduate Studies (or designated delegate) will nominate eligible candidates by the deadline.
  • Selection Panel: Nominations will be reviewed and ranked by a selection panel that considers academic merit, specific barriers candidates may have faced, and their suitability for the PATHWAY Programme.

Outcomes will be communicated to nominees and nominating departments in early June 2025.
